With Grace

Approaching one year of age is my lovely sweet Grace. She threatened to be some kind of feisty character. I trained her to behave for a halter show when she was just about six months, and she proved to be very smart.

Grace and Netherite

She cannot be shown about, as there is no time for travels in the schedule. Grace did well in one local show and didn’t go anywhere else. There are no results in the records, but we learnt she’s not the lightest in her group, so she cannot not be the best.

The spring brought the striping of her baby beauty, and summer brought the annoyance of the flies. The holidays, the duties, and I had to make some distance from the herd to attend more and more tasks.

As if growth imposed some kind of metamorphic discipline, Grace has resulted in a very different alpaca. The eyes of her grandma, the fleece of her sire she keeps. The physical resemblance with my precious Aramis has faded to let through some of her dam’s features. Grace’s colour revealed darker, her snout appears sharp, and she is, compared to average, tall. However, Grace has grown more tame and mellow, and tending her needs is a pleasure of calmness and cuddles.

I like apacas that, with their physical quality and behaviour, provide a healthy balance to the group.
