Time flies

Feeding crias away from the hungry mums

One of those had fly strike. Can you tell?

I couldn’t. We do close observarions. It seems like September is the month in our farm.

It was about 2pm and we went to check the animals. After cuddling them to see their nails, check out their lovely coming fleeces, smelling their snout (yes, they say hello, but you can smell mouth infections if any…). And there it was! A few clusters of recently laid eggs, lovely creamy colour, perfect uniformity of size, tangled in the fibres just close to the tail of one of them. I run for the first aid box. We cleared as many as we could see, then sprayed in case any left. We then washed our hands (yes, yuk) and continued with the rest, vitamins, feeds…

Dora still tries to trick mum for a drink, after 7 months apart!!

A couple of pinky feet, not sure if mites but sprayed just in case.

One more look to that one before we go and… voilà! A few tiny maggots. In a matter of 40 minutes they hatched. We obviously missed some. Cleaned again, treat again. We found the little scratch targeted by the flies. Now, observation every few hours just in case.

I have to say, that I didn’t even bother taking pictures. Priorities first. I have to set my mind on documenting when something like this happens. It’s a good experience to share.

I just need to check once more before the night.
