I got interested in them, initially, to cut the grass. It’s a very valid reason.
Then I found myself surrounded by a few of them and felt something else. It hadn’t happened before with sheep, nor with cows or chickens. Not even surrounded by humans I ever felt it. You can call it energy, spirit, power… I’m not giving it a name. It’s rather special.

Sometimes I find a gap in my hurry and pause to feel it. Sometimes I’m busy and I lift my head and I’m surrounded again. They come to give it to me, that… thing that calms the soul. It’s very comforting when negative feelings pop up.
My humble herd gives me this something that I can’t give back. I am honoured. When they could run free, they come to me.

It helps me understand that maybe the link with the deity the Incas found in them is not random. Pachamama gifted the Alpaca to the people, and somehow the flow of life from Mother Earth gives the alpaca a very strong presence that emanates peace. Even if there is stress, I am protected by this sense of security and safety that brings about serenity to my soul.
