The balance after the matings, checking for pregnancies before we decide the husbandry needs for each group of alpacas.
Trelawney happens to be the one to help checking who’s taken or not. I can’t help but feeling sorry for him, as he’s presented to all the girls but he’s not allowed to touch them. He’s so professional though. A delight to work with.
We mated six. We’ve checked five, one sat. We’re not worried as she’s our youngest princess and we weren’t sure she was ready. We still have to check the last one. We hope she will be pregnant. I’m very intrigued to find out about this last one, as it was a late mating, only once, but the combination would most definitely produce a wonderful cria.
Hope for 5 out of 6. That wouldn’t be a bad balance. If all goes well, we’ll be back in the ring at some point.
