Early on Saturday morning we went to collect some vaccines from my friend Carol. Unexpected new vaccination, at least for this year, to prevent blue tongue (BTV) in our herd. This is the map of England with the BTV zone and our location. X marks the spot.
We have, for some time given supplements to prevent midges’ bites. But after the spread of the disease through the country, we follow the guidelines to prevent further spread and, hopefully we remain outside the high risk area. A swift process and team work, we performed the vaccinations and we had time to start the day while tuning in with the BAS National Alpaca Show life broadcast.
It was nice to see the quality throughout and comparing new and old favourite alpacas while keeping an eye on all those animals that might interest us for future breeding. After being out of the show ring for a few years, maybe it is time to start thinking about it again.
