Who wants a sterile piece of land when you can coexist with Nature that looks like this!? The pictures are from different locations. It requires work. However, I do like an English garden, far from sterile low maintenance designs.

Check mate
The balance after the matings, checking for pregnancies before we decide the husbandry needs for each group of alpacas. Trelawney happens to be the one to help checking who’s taken or not. I can’t help but feeling sorry for him, as he’s presented to all the girls but he’s not allowed to touch them. He’sContinue reading “Check mate”
End of summer
During the last few months, we’ve been looking at the sky, wondering where the summer was. It eventually gave us a few days of sunshine. September has brought more rain, making the shorter days more noticeable. The crias don’t seem to mind the rain, though. They are playing constantly, running, chasing, and investigating around, asContinue reading “End of summer”
No crowd
It did happen, however I had not shared it. We did have only two crias out of six we had planned last year. Our breeding is in a standby at the minute. But we will get back to it eventually. Coming back to the arrivals this summer, we again managed to have only one male.Continue reading “No crowd”
Wait
After letting go of some of my girls earlier in the year, I’m expecting only two crias. The weather has been perfect for it, but the mums have decided that full term is better. So we’re approaching the 348 and 343 days of gestation, and with a turn of the weather -yes, that was theContinue reading “Wait”
Listen
¿Qué escuchas mientras trabajas? While I work, I hear the wind on the roof running through the old tiles, and in the big trees pushing bent the twigs, sometimes the machines busy in the fields around. There’s always birds singing. Sometimes they do competitions for loudness. On occasions they shout long conversations from one sideContinue reading “Listen”
Dreaming
I’ve been looking at last seassion’s crias. There is less time to spend with them these days, and the halter training does not seem to have been as sharp. They still fight and refuse to walk individually, so we have to take them in small groups. The mums are looking rather ready. DG and AmeeraContinue reading “Dreaming”
Challenging breeders
Sometimes you look for the right matching male for your alpaca, but you don’t get what you want. The mixture of genes combines randomly and you may not get what you expect. All these unknown genes passed on unnoticed…! I can think of some national champion alpacas whose full brothers or sisters are not asContinue reading “Challenging breeders”
Fructicious privilege
The time of the year when tomatoes start popping out everywhere. I am expecting the slugs and snails to have some share of it too. The pests are taking over this year. On the other hand, peas are doing better than ever. I spend my evenings walking down to the garden and picking a fewContinue reading “Fructicious privilege”
Next to my skin
I have been indulging my fingers in the touch of your fibre. In the evenings, after the other jobs are done, I have been soaking my hands in it as a soothing sensation for the soul. In the early morning when I have been disturbed by some sharp thoughts during my sleep, the entwined yarnContinue reading “Next to my skin”
